Have you missed it? I know I have! When we left our old web site, we also left our handy sidebar calendar and getting a new one up and running has taken longer than we expected. BUT, we think you’re going to like it ~ we already do.

Highlights of this new calendar:

  • You can see as much or as little of the calendar as you want. Check the sidebar for upcoming events or click on “VIEW ENTIRE CALENDAR” for more detail and more dates
  • The side bar updates instantly and automatically so we’ll never have out of date information listed (that’s our favorite feature so far.)
  • Maps, lots of room for event detail, and a comment area are just a few of the goodies we can use to make sure that folks have all the information they need.

We’re still learning so if you see errors, let us know. And please, continue to submit your events to info at winnebagopresbytery dot org

We’ve been making changes to this web site over the last couple of weeks, and we hope you find them useful. If you check out the “About” section you will now find a map of the presbytery locating all of our churches.

Bulletin Inserts are back - Have you downloaded the message from Presbytery Moderator Barbara Jordanger? Many presbytery forms and policies can be found on the web page as well. If you need a presbytery form and can’t find it here, let us know. We’ll get it added.

Do you ignore that gray box along the right side of the page? You should check it out by scrolling down. There are links to websites for some of our congregations, the Synod of Lakes and Prairies, and the PC(USA). If your church has a website and it’s not included, tell us. Keep scrolling and you will find a Directory of Churches in Winnebago Presbytery.

Watch for more changes in the coming weeks!

Since Winnebago Presbytery began blogging in February, a few folks have asked, “WHY?” What possible good could come of yet another web-page in the vast and unending world wide web. My answer is, at best, incomplete but here are a few of the reasons that I think blogging is a good idea.

1. It’s fast. Communication has the potential to happen nearly instantly. No waiting for snail mail and no clogged email boxes.

2. It’s big. The presbytery has loads and loads of space on this site to share information - from plain old words to video clips with sound - we can post it and you can view it.

3. It’s a conversation. Anyone can post a comment underneath any post. And, we’ve offered to provide user-names and passwords to those who want to write a post. (We sincerely hope that someone will take us up on it soon!)

The first two reasons overcome some of the logistics that can limit communication like speed, space and postage. The last reason is probably the most important. As the culture continues to move into a digital age, the church will either move with it, or find itself remarkable far behind and if and when it does catch up, the competition will be stiff. Blogging allows us to use the technology of the day to build up our communities of faith, the stay connected to the larger church and to strengthen relationships despite obstacles like distance.

Lest you think we’re ahead of the game in Winnebago Presbytery, here are some Presbyterian folk who have been blogging away for quite some time.
