Since Winnebago Presbytery began blogging in February, a few folks have asked, “WHY?” What possible good could come of yet another web-page in the vast and unending world wide web. My answer is, at best, incomplete but here are a few of the reasons that I think blogging is a good idea.

1. It’s fast. Communication has the potential to happen nearly instantly. No waiting for snail mail and no clogged email boxes.

2. It’s big. The presbytery has loads and loads of space on this site to share information - from plain old words to video clips with sound - we can post it and you can view it.

3. It’s a conversation. Anyone can post a comment underneath any post. And, we’ve offered to provide user-names and passwords to those who want to write a post. (We sincerely hope that someone will take us up on it soon!)

The first two reasons overcome some of the logistics that can limit communication like speed, space and postage. The last reason is probably the most important. As the culture continues to move into a digital age, the church will either move with it, or find itself remarkable far behind and if and when it does catch up, the competition will be stiff. Blogging allows us to use the technology of the day to build up our communities of faith, the stay connected to the larger church and to strengthen relationships despite obstacles like distance.

Lest you think we’re ahead of the game in Winnebago Presbytery, here are some Presbyterian folk who have been blogging away for quite some time.

Aloha!

I am so excited about blogs! As you can see, CHris and I have a blog also of our journey in Hawaii. Please check it out! (Schwabspot@blogspot.com)

Anyway, it is great to feel connected to Winnebago Presbytery. Even though we are so far away, this blog enables us to participate in the larger community! Keep up the good work!

ALoha friends! Rachel, Chris and Noah Schwab
